Kaima's Farming Philosophy:
How We Grow & Harvest Our Vegetables
Growing Methods
Our farming approach is rooted in organic agriculture, drawing inspiration from permaculture principles and regenerative farming practices. Simply put, we grow our vegetables in the most natural way possible, without using any synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers. We work to nurture and preserve the soil, enrich it with organic compost, and protect the natural habitats surrounding the farm in order to foster a balanced ecosystem that helps prevent pests and diseases from becoming established.
Over the years, we have come to recognize the importance of supporting the organic farming movement as a whole. For this reason, we have decided to join Israel’s organic certification program, and we expect to receive official organic certification by the end of 2026.
Growing in the Fields
Most of our vegetables are grown outdoors using the most natural methods possible. We do not use any sprays or pesticides in the open fields, including those approved for organic farming. We fertilize with inputs approved for organic agriculture and invest in building healthy soil through crop rotation, fallow periods, and nitrogen-fixing cover crops. This approach sometimes means losing part of the harvest to pests, but we believe it is the best way to maintain a healthy balance with the surrounding ecosystem.
Growing in the Greenhouses
In our greenhouses, we cultivate peppers, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and cucumbers throughout most of the year, alongside leafy greens during the winter. Because these primary crops are poorly suited to our region's open fields, they rely entirely on greenhouse shelter. We fertilize exclusively with organic-approved compost and strictly minimize the use of organic-approved protective sprays.
Tithings and Offerings
At Kaima Beit Zayit, we separate trumot and ma'asrot (offerings and tithings) from our own harvest in accordance with Jewish agricultural law. Please note that additional products in our packing house may originate from other sources, whose practices are unknown to us.
