Urban Greenhouse Farming

Kaima Beit Zayit, located in a rural valley just a few miles from Jerusalem, is participating in a meaningful way in the capital city’s exciting internal urban renewal process. In November 2015, we broke ground with a sophisticated hydroponic greenhouse, the first commercial enterprise of its kind within Jerusalem proper, housed within the 30-acre Jerusalem Botanical Garden. In 2019, the system was converted to traditional greenhouse growing, and the results have been terrific!

  • Expand pedagogic and economic opportunities for Kaima young farmers.

  • Produce high quality, nutritional, and flavorful vegetables year-round regardless of the harsh weather conditions outside.

  • Further Kaima’s long-term economic target of securing 70% of our budget from the sale of the farm's yield.

  • Help Jerusalem re-imagine itself and explore its green potential by promoting urban agriculture for commercial application and personal/community gardening for private use.

  • Expand our relationship with our friends at the Jerusalem Botanical Garden’s through their "Hub for Social and Environmental Activism".
