Established in 2013 on the outskirts of Jerusalem, Amutat Kaima’s mission is to provide both long- and short-term, hands-on therapeutic and educational agricultural experiences for vulnerable populations and the general community. Tapping into nature’s restorative properties, Kaima leads Israel’s burgeoning social farming network which connects local agriculture to social/mental health care services.
To date, we have inspired the creation of nine social farms/agricultural initiatives to address the needs high school dropouts, young adults seeking alternative national service placement, sexual abuse survivors, IDF reservists struggling with PTSD symptoms, people with intellectual disabilities, and others. In the process, we bring the larger community together around environmental stewardship, collective gardening, food justice, and more.
